1. Petunia was the first person who ever saw Lily do any magic. Lily was seven and Petunia was nine, and they were playing in the park by their home in Surrey when Petunia fell off a swing in a park and started crying. Lily was so furious at the swing that she made it crumble into rust. Petunia didn't speak to her for the rest of the day. That set the tone for their future interactions with magic.

2. Lily's mother was a Cultural History professor at the local university. She's ... a bit of an odd duck, to quote Lily's father. Very much into nature, and ancient druidic traditions. She was so pleased when Lily received her Hogwarts letter.

3. When asked her favourite colour, Lily always says blue. She used to say it was pink until Petunia told her that it clashed with her hair and made her look ugly.

4. Her favourite book in the world is Anne of Green Gables, which her mother read to them when she and Petunia were young. When Lily rereads the book years later, she is amused to note that her and James's relationship bore a certain resemblance to that of Anne and Gilbert.

5. She absolutely loves The Beatles; on the train in first year she has a argument with Alice Corbett (future Longbottom) about who is cuter, John or Paul. Lily thinks it's Paul but Alice still insists it's John. Despite these disagreements, Alice and Lily became fast friends.

6. Although she would never admit it out loud, she does think that Sirius has a very nice arse.

7. And Remus has a very kissable mouth.

8. And she figures James would most likely be a tiny bit upset about these opinions of hers, so she never shares them. Besides, the only fantasizing she did was before she figured out a certain fact about one Sirius Black and one Remus Lupin.

9. There is nothing she hates more than when certain people act as if being a Muggleborn is a disability she's had to overcome.

10. When she starts to call him 'James', instead of 'Potter', Lily knows she has lost the contest of wills between them. And even though she hates to lose, this loss doesn't sting as she thought it would.

11. Her first real kiss was at the first Slug Club of fifth year, in the Potions closet with Head Boy Evan Rosier. On a scale of one to ten, Lily gave it an 8.5. There's no equivalent until seventh year, when James surprises her as she comes out of her Charms NEWT. That one was a ten.

12. She dislikes the whole Gryffindor/Slytherin rivalry and there were times at Hogwarts she wished she was in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff just so that she wouldn't have to deal with it.

13. Despite sometimes harsh words and and many disagreements about magic, she really does love Petunia. She does not however, like Vernon Dursley. Foul, closeminded little pustucle of a man. She would much rather Petunia have married Robert the Biker.

14. She thinks that Slughorn is a good Potions teacher, but she's never felt quite comfortable around him ever since fifth year when she caught him staring very intensely at her chest. But she's never told anyone about it, she can fight her own battles, no help needed or wanted. She wonders if Slughorn ever figured out it was her who took his last precious bottle of pineapple rum.

15. She likes to consider herslef not much of girly girl but Lily has always enjoyed having sleepovers. She started the tradition of holding one in the Gryffindor common room in second year and continued it through seventh year. Of course, seventh year was slightly different, as it was with James. Luckily Peter came to wake them before the rest of the house came down.

16. The scariest experience she's had in her life was meeting James's parents during the Easter holidays in seventh year. None of the battles she's fought in since have made her as nervous as she was that morning in Hogsmeade.

17. The main thought running through her head at the first Order of the Phoenix was how small the group was- and that there were so many people missing. She couldn't figure out the reason why until later that week they had their first skirmish with the Death Eaters.

18. She doesn't understand the full extent of the chasm in the wizarding world until she catches the eye of Rabastan Lestrange during a Death Eater attack on Diagon Alley. She remembers trading her Muggle music albums for his old pureblood potions book. James comes home to find her crying on the floor, surrounded by broken Beatles records.

19. She was so certain that she was having a daughter that when the Healer first tells her it's a boy, Lily responds that it must be a mistake. She quickly amends that statement when she holds her son with his messy little tuff of hair. Just like his father's.

20. As she lays with James on the sofa, holding Harry in her arms, Lily thinks that she's found her happy ending. It may be only temporary, as tomorrow they go into hiding, but for now it's enough. She just hopes she's strong enough to find out what happens after happily ever after.
